Flash floods in Badakhshan have claimed the lives of 10 members of a single family, according to Mohammad Akram Akbari, Taliban’s head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority in the province.
The floods hit the Morchak area in Faizabad City, the center of Badakhshan, on Saturday night, May 25.
Akbari reported that only one body has been recovered from the Kokcha River so far, and efforts to locate the remaining victims are ongoing.
Earlier, flash floods three days ago in Sar-e Pol and Faryab provinces resulted in over 15 deaths. Additionally, floods over the past week in Faryab have claimed more than 80 lives.
According to United Nations statistics, recent devastating floods in the northern, northeastern, and western provinces of Afghanistan have caused over 350 deaths and have affected over 80,000 people.
