UNITED NATIONS — The deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, stated that the UN is continuing to make arrangements for the upcoming Doha meeting.
In response to questions about doubts regarding the Afghanistan-centric meeting taking place, Haq said, “I don’t want to speculate about that possibility. Obviously, until arrangements are finalized, every meeting has the possibility that it may or may not take place.”
At this stage, Haq noted that preparations for the meeting are still underway. “We hope that it will work out, and closer to the date, we expect to be able to announce arrangements once those are finalized; but at this stage, of course, we’re still in preparations,” he said. “Regarding that, you saw the language we put out about the invitation being extended, and we’ll have to see what the result is.”
The UN-hosted Doha meeting is scheduled for the end of this month, where envoys from around 25 countries will exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan.
